Sonic Geometries Exhibitions

Newark (US) || Tokyo (JP) || Tokamachi (JP)

A multisensory experience of space, shape, and sound, Sonic Geometries features sound sculptures and audio installations by Wolfgang Gil. Gil's work explores the sculptural qualities of sound, inviting viewers to engage with listening as both an external experience and an internal perceptual process. A touring exhibition with stops in America and Japan, Sonic Geometries presents a selection of works from the artist's collection, alongside new pieces created for or in dialogue with each exhibition context.

In 2021, Gil collaborated with the curatorial team at the Newark Museum of Art to expand his sculptural approach to sound. Sonic Geometries created a dialogue between his work and key selections from the Museum’s collection, highlighting geometric abstraction—a defining strength of the Newark Museum’s American art holdings. The exhibition featured works such as a sculpture by Sol LeWitt, along with paintings and works on paper by Sam Gilliam, Donald Judd, Victor Davson, and Richard Anuszkiewicz. Each piece engaged in a visual and conceptual exchange with Gil’s own work. Together, they fostered a dynamic, intergenerational conversation on form, texture, space, and sound.
